Did you know roses can be patented?

The “New Dawn” was the first rose to be patented in 1931 by Henry Bosenberg.  Since the 1930s, the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued at least 6,000 plant patents and there has been at least 708 patents on hybrid red roses. To acquire a plant patent the plant’s invention or discovery must be in a cultivated state and asexually reproduced.
