Attorney Highlight: Kevin West, Advent Founding Partner

Kevin West, Advent Founding Partner and Patent Attorney

Why did you get into Intellectual Property?

I love technology and working on the most innovative ideas with very intelligent people. One of the things I liked the most when I worked as an aerospace engineer was the integration of airplane design, electronics and software. At the time, if I wanted to keep growing in the field I would have had to get into a very narrow field of expertise. Working in IP gave me the opportunity to expand my knowledge in many different fields, it never gets boring.

In which technologies do you have the most experience in?

My clients along the years have influenced and contributed to my knowledge in their fields. I have worked extensively in the GPS industry, with fluid compression systems, mass spectrometry analysis and equipment, and all kinds of power tools.

What new technologies are you most excited about?

I’m fortunate to be a part of the development team of Falcon Power, a company working in motor generator technology. I believe this technology may revolutionize the electric motor industry, helping them maintain maximum efficiency over a wide range of RPMs than that of typical motors.

What are some technologies that you would love to take on more?

There are so many it’s hard to decide. As an aerospace engineer I would love to work in rocket propulsion, launch and recovery technologies and satellites. I would also love to work closer with the automotive industry, including electric vehicles and related software.
